TOMMY MUÑIZ TO RECEIVE THE SILVER CIRCLE
IN SAN JUAN ON OCTOBER 28, 2004
 
Tommy Muñiz will receive the Silver Circle award at a gala banquet on Thursday evening, October 28 at the Banker's Club in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The award will be presented by Bob Behrens, President, the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Tommy is a Puerto Rican comedian, dramatic actor, television station owner and producer. He was born in Ponce in 1922. During World War II, he began his career bringing vaudeville shows to several Armed Forces training camps in the United States and the Caribbean. After the war, he produced and acted in two best radio comedies of the era in Puerto Rico: Las Familia Perez and Torito & Co. With the birth of television in Puerto Rico in 1954 and for many subsequent years, seven of the top ten shows in Puerto Rican television were shows from Producciones Tommy Muñiz. In the 1970s, Tommy produced and acted in a hugely successful comedy series named Los Garcia. Today, Tommy produces special programs for public broadcast in Puerto Rico. The Silver Circle presentation to Tommy Muñiz is produced for the Academy by Victor Montilla, Vice President, Puerto Rico for the Suncoast Chapter who also is a distinguished producer in Puerto Rican television.

On Sunday night, May 2, at the 2004 Suncoast Chapter Silver Circle Awards six distinguished South Florida television personalities were recognized for 25 years of excellence in television.

Mary Ross Agosta, who stated her television career at WCIX-TV, independent channel 6 in Miami, producing the award-winning children’s program Duck, Duck Goose, is the former Mayor of Miami Shores and is now the Director of Communications for the Archdiocese of Miami.

Clifton Brown, joined WLBW-TV, Channel 10 in Miami in building maintenance. Shortly, the station became WPLG-TV and Clifton, by his hard work, rose through ever more significant job positions: camera operator, floor director and studio supervisor.

Diana Gonzalez is a television news reporter with an awesome history: news reporter at the CBS affiliate in Miami, WTVJ-TV, Medical Reporter and Midday News Anchor at WPLG-TV, Network Correspondent for CBS News and, most recently, Heath and Family Reporter for NBC6/WTVJ, Miramar.

Mac MacDonald is Director of Operations at HBO Latin America. His career began at NBC in New York in 1970. Soon, he moved to Miami and joined WCIX-TV where he spent the next 25 years working for seven general managers and five different owners, including CBS.

Bill Press was born and raised in South Florida. He began his television career at age 17 working without pay for WKID-TV, a small independent. Over the years he gained bigger and better jobs. In 2001 he was named Senior Vice President of the Telemundo Network.

Daniel Roujansky has worked at WFOR/CBS4 for more than 25 years. He is a Director, Producer, Editor, Musician who has been honored with eight regional Emmy nominations and has won three in addition to awards from other broadcast organizations.

The 2004 Suncoast Chapter Silver Circle Awards were held at the Eden Roc Resort and Spa on Miami Beach for a banquet audience of 120 South Florida television professionals and their friends and families.
