Silver Circle began in 1989. It is awarded to television professionals
who have performed distinguished service within television for twenty-five
years or more, the significant part of which was done within South
Florida.

The 2002 Silver Circle Awards were presented to an audience of one hundred and forty people on Sunday night, May 5, 2002 in the Crystal Ballroom at the Mayfair House in Coconut Grove. Six distinguished South Florida television professionals were honored for their extraordinary careers.

Education Reporter for WTVJ/NBC6, part of the WTVJ news team since 1972
Connie Hicks
Reporter, The Investigative Unit, WPLG/10 who started her career in 1972 in her native Minnesota.
Michael Putney
Senior Political Reporter for WPLG/10 who started his career in 1966 while a graduate student at the University of Missouri.
Wayne Fariss
Retired News Anchor who spent 26 years with WSVN-TV/7 in Miami.
Gary Nelson
Reporter for WFOR/CBS4 who started his broadcast news career 32 years ago in Gainesville, Florida
