SILVER CIRCLE AWARDS LOOKED BACK
WITH PRIDE AND FORWARD WITH HOPE |

The Silver Circle Awards were held on Sunday night, May 6, 2007 as a formal, gala dinner and presentation in the Hall of Ambassadors Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Hotel , 50 Alhambra Plaza, Coral Gables, Florida. The Awards recognized seven veteran television professionals who have worked with distinction in television for 25 years or more: Alina Mayo Azze, an Emmy award-winning reporter and the 6 and 11 pm weeknight news anchor on WLTV Univision 23 in Miami. She was presented with her award by her co-anchor Guillermo Benites. Abel Castillo, a veteran award-winning news photojournalist at WFOR-TV/CBS4 who began his career shooting news with a 16mm film camera at WCIX-TV in 1980. His award was presented by CBS4 New Anchor Eliott Rodriguez. Jimmy Cefalo, Sports Director for WPLG-TV Local 10 in Miami, 3rd round draft choice of the Miami Dolphins in 1978 and well-known wine connoisseur. His presenter was Joe Rose, Sports Anchor, NBC6/WTVJ. Jim Farrell, Chief Meteorologist at WINK-TV, the CBS affiliate in Ft. Myers, Florida. His presenter was Wayne Simons, Vice President and General Manager, WINK-TV. Jack Horkheimer, the creator/writer/host of public televisions Star Hustler/Star Gazer and the Executive Director of the Miami Space Transit Planetarium at the Miami Science Museum. He received his award from Rick Schneider, President and General Manager, WPBT/2, Miami. Diane Magnum, anchor of Local News at Noon on WPLG-TV Local 10 in Miami. Her presenter was Tom Doerr, the newly appointed Station Manager of WFOR-TV/CBS4 and the former News Director at WPLG-TV. Patricia San Pedro, Owner and President of San Pedro Productions, a marketing, public relations, special events and TV production company and co-author of a best-selling book. Her presenter was Nick Bogart, NBC6 News Reporter. For the first time, the 2007 Silver Circle Awards blended in one evening recognition of past achievements with the presentation of scholarship assistance to five outstanding college and university students of broadcasting and communications who, by reason of their extraordinary promise, are the future of television in South Florida. Four of the scholarship recipients are Arielle Christine Clay, a Junior majoring in Broadcast Journalism and Creative Writing, Tricia Durrant, a Junior majoring in Broadcasting and Psychology, Andrea Linares, a Junior majoring in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science and Rory Lincoln, a Freshman majoring in Broadcast Journalism, all studying in the School of Communication at the University of Miami. The fifth recipient is Debora Ovalles, a Junior in the Department of Communication at Barry University, majoring in Broadcast Communications. The students were presented with plaques designating each one of them as Distinguished Suncoast Scholars. |
